Basking Ridge Artist To Display 'Horizons' at Bernardsville Library

The Bernardsville Library will present “Horizons,” an exhibition of paintings and watercolors by Basking Ridge artist Nancy Robinson, with an opening reception for the public from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.  The exhibition will be on view during the month of October during regular library hours. 

Robinson describes herself as a realist painter. "However, I aim to represent the effect of light and shadow on my subjects rather than simply reproduce the scenes as viewed. I paint to capture memories, record the character of light, the fall of shadows, and the nature of forms. Painting is my emotional response to what I see, and it is my hope that I invoke a similar response in those who view my work." 

A resident of Basking Ridge, Robinson has taught painting to students in her home studio. Her work is held in private collections in New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois and Florida.

An award-winning watercolor artist, she has been working in the fine arts field for more than 30 years. After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts and Art Education from The College of Saint Elizabeth, she continued her studies with several notable artists: Carol Hubbard, John Salminen, Judy Betts, Anne Kullaf, Gary Godbee and Stan Miller. She then studied at The Yard School of Art, Center for Contemporary Design and Du Cret School of Art.

"I most enjoy painting architecture and flowers and my best work combines these elements," She said her paintings often reflect her travels across Europe and her favorite places in the U.S. "However, I often find beauty and inspiration in my own backyard."

She is represented by Manasquan Paint and Frame Gallery in Manasquan.  An elected Signature Member of New Jersey Watercolor Society, Ms. Robinson holds professional membership in EWCC, MSHAC, GSWCS, and NJ Society of Plein Air Artists.

Working in both watercolor and oils, her work is often of architectural landscapes inspired by local surroundings and travel abroad.  Figures in everyday settings are also of interest to her. “The subject itself is secondary to the primary interest of depicting the ethereal effect of light and shadow on the subject matter," she says.
