Chabad to Host First Annual Jewish Music and Art Festival

Full day of performances and activities this Sunday, Aug. 15.

The Chabad Jewish Center in Basking Ridge is gearing up to present the first annual Jewish Music and Art Festival this Sunday, Aug. 15.

"For the last few years, we've presented a Jewish summer concert," said Rabbi Yitzchok Moully, Chabad's program director. "This year, we decided to expand the program to an all-encompassing, full blown Jewish Music and Art Festival. The festival will include multiple live bands, a childrens performer and displays of Jewish art, crafts and creativity. There will also be lots of great food in the form of a delicious glatt kosher barbecue with all the trimmings and other kosher foods, such as falafel and knishes."

Musical performances will include four different acts of varying genres. Popular Ska artist King Django's latest band, Roots and Culture; New York-based reggae group Pey Dalid; California natives and rabbis 8th Day; and Moroccan-born LevYatan performing trance rock fusion.

The festival will be held on the seven-acre campus of the Chabad Jewish Center in Basking Ridge. The festival organizers are expecting to attract more than 1,000 people–Jews and non-Jews alike.

"This event will have lots of energy and will really bring the community together in an exciting way," said Moully, the festival's organizer. "This is the first such event in the region and the Somerset Hills area is in for a treat."

The festival takes place from noon to 8:30 pm at 3048 Valley Road, Basking Ridge. Parking is available at Dewy Meadow Plaza with shuttle service. Directions are available at www.JMAfest.com.

Tickets are $13 per person and $50 for a family of two adults and up to four children before Aug. 15 online at www.jmafest.com. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $15 per person or $60 for two adults and up to four children. Children under 2 are free.

"This will be a family program for the entire community," said Moully. "We hope it will be enjoyed by people of all ages."
