The Ridge High Music Department presents its spring orchestra concert on Tuesday, June 5 at the Ridge Performing Arts Center. The 7 pm concert will feature the school’s Symphony Chamber Orchestras lead by conductor Jennifer Curran. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted.
The Chamber Orchestra will perform two works: Antique Airs and Dances (movement 1 – Italiana) by the twentieth
century Italian composer Ottorino Respighi and the popular Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (movement IV Rondo) composed in 1787 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The Symphony Orchestra will perform two works with featured soloists. Antonio Vivaldi’s eighteenth century composition Concerto in A Minor, op. 3, no. 8 will feature violin soloists Eileen Cho and Scott Altman. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C
Major, K. 467 will feature piano soloist Amanda Li.
The combined Chamber and Symphony Orchestras will perform four nineteenth century works. Overture to the Barber of Seville, from Gioacchino Rossini’s popular opera, was composed in 1817. British composer Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations (movement IX – Nimrod) premiered in 1899 in London. The lively Thunder and Lightning Polka, op. 324 by Johann Strauss Jr. will feature student conductor Scott Altman.
The concert concludes with the frantic Bacchanale from the opera Samson and Dalila, op 47 composed by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens.
Thirty Three Ridge High seniors will be performing for the final time with the orchestras: Majd Abousleiman, Scott Altman, Ananya Badrish, Pat Burns, Ava Chen, Kristina Cheung, Eileen Cho, Rachel Conklin, Adam Connolly, Shireen Fathi, Charlene Haddad, Jaeyoung Han, Maggie Hanna, Alexandra Hershberger, Erin Ji, Sara Jones, Leo Lu, Ben Mason, Jake Massa, Keegan McCoy, Devin McGuire, Claire Olczak, Song Park, Brian Patchett, Max Rappaport, Lilian Ro, Michael Shaw, Emily Sisto, Megan Tsai, Howard Wei, Peter Woo, Justin Wu and Cynthia Zie.
