MORE EVENTS: Activities for Week Off, Sat. Passover Meal

Many activities linked to the Easter and Passover holidays.

This upcoming weekend represents some of the most religious and joyous holidays of the year, Easter and Passover, with many activities related to those special occasions.

But we also have listed some activities to enjoy and keep busy during what may be some extra time off from work or school.

Free classes and activities continue at the through Saturday. Some things to do for kids and teens at the Bernards Township Library and at the Environmental Education Center are included below. For additional information on upcoming activities, check the websites for the Bernards library, the Bernardsville Public Library, or the EEC, on the Somerset County Parks Commission website.

Come Play at the Y
When/Where: During regular hours from Sunday, April 1 through Saturday, April 7, week of free activities at the on Mount Airy Road or at Riverwalk in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Try the Y for free, and meet up with friends who already are members. Full listing of activities online on the YMCA website.
Cost: Free

Teen Advisory Board at Bernards Township Library
When/Where:
Next Wed., April 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the , 32 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Help plan future library events and volunteer projects! This month the board will consider plans for After Hours Coffeehouse Night and Summer Readings. And the meeting will give you something to do on your spring break from school.

Giant Mural Painting
When/Where: Local artist Caren Frost Olmsted needs 20 kids on Tues, April 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. to help color in a giant mural at the Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge. Many slots are available throughout the day, each day, between April 17-21.
Why Go: Your child doesn't need special artistic talent, but can contribute to a landmark.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service
When/Where:
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the sanctuary at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, 45 Church St., in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township.
Why Go: All are welcome to an evening Good Friday Tenebrae service in the church sanctuary. Tenebrae is a service of gradual darkening of lights as the events of Good Friday are retold.
Cost: Free.


When/Where: Plan ahead to attend on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m. at at 3048 Valley Road.
Why Go: Jews of all affiliations are invited to participate in an evening replete with traditional handmade Matzoh, Four Cups of wine, lively dialogue, and an exquisite Kosher Passover dinner.
Cost: $36 for adult, $18 per child, call 908-604-8844 or rsvp online.

Frogs, Frogs, Everywhere
When/Where: Tuesday, April 10, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Somerset County , 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Children ages 4 to 6 will search the swamp for tadpoles and frogs, learning about their life cycles while exploring nature.

Sixty Years of Photos from the Somerset Hills YMCA
When/Where:
Through April, to begin with reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the Bernardsville Public Library, 1 Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville.
Why Go: To view photos from 1951 to 2011 from through the years at the which began in a small building in Bernardsville, and now occupies two facilities in Basking Ridge.

Photos with the Easter Bunny
When/Where: Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the .
Why Go: To celebrate the Easter season with a family picture with the Easter Bunny. Photos will be taken now through April 7.
Cost: Depends on the cost of the photo package you purchase.

12th Annual Cross Walk
When/Where: Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To participate in the annual walk in honor of Good Friday as congregants will gather at the church and begin walking toward St. Bernard's, with stops at Bridgeway Facility and possibly at the Day Care Center. There is a large wooden cross that is carried by kids and adults. 
Cost: Free.

Walk on the Wild Side at Duke Farms
When/Where: Friday at 6 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. at Duke Farms on Route 206 in Hillsborough.
Why Go: To explore nature through a 1.25-mile trail and look at some of the landscape created by J.B. Duke.
Cost: Free.

Meet Sparkee!
When/Where: Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at .
Why Go: To take your free picture with Sparkee the Mascot from the Somerset Patriots. Sparkee will take keepsake pictures with free ticket give-aways, sign autographs and give out other prizes.
Cost: Free.

When/Where: Saturday at 8 a.m. at Lake Hopatcong Marine, 155 Route 181, Lake Hopatcong.
Why Go: To learn everything you need to know to get a NJ boating safety certificate, which you need to operate a boat in the state.
Cost: $65 includes course and lunch. Preregister at 973-610-1121 or f.federico@att.net.


When/Where: Thursday-Sunday starting at 10 a.m. at Fire District No. 1 Mount Tabor Fire Department locations: 909 Tabor Road and 72 S. Powder Mill Road in Parsippany.
Why Go: To pick up some gorgeous holiday blooms and support the lifesaving work of the all-volunteer squad
