Reception Monday Opens Arts Access Exhibit

Twenty paintings by 15 different artists in the Matheny's Arts Access Program will be on display through July 30 at the Bernardsville Public Library, displaying the work of disabled students at the medical center and school that was produced with professional "artist-facilitators."

The public is invited to an opening reception for the Art Access exhibit between 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday at the library at 1 Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville.

Arts Access enables people with disabilities that can affect their mobility to create fine art by working closely with professional artist-facilitators. Paintings featured in the exhibition will be small and medium-sized abstract works on canvas.

This display and art sale will provide Arts Access artists the opportunity to share their works with the Somerset Hills community. All proceeds from artwork sales are split 50/50, with half the funds going directly to the artist and the other half going to Matheny to cover the cost of art materials, stretching and framing of the work.

The Matheny Medical and Educational Center is located in Peapack-Gladstone and serves inpatients, outpatients and students with medically complex disabilities. The school has been at its location for more than 50 years.
