Music Everywhere, Sunday Drawing and Painting Workshop

Friday fundraising outdoor movie at Liberty Corner Church and other activities in the upcoming days.

Thursday night is one of the premiere events of the start of summer, Music at Moorland. There are a variety of other activities scheduled through the weekend that will appeal to all tastes and ages. Events for younger residents are near the end of the column.

The 10th annual Music at Moorland, set for June 23 on the rolling hills of Moorland Farms in Far Hills, will feature an outdoor twilight performance by the Grammy award-winning New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) and fireworks by the legendary Grucci family. Tickets are available online or at the gate.

Since its inception, Music at Moorland has been presented by sanofi-aventis U.S. and benefits Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

“This event has been a wonderful way for families throughout Central New Jersey to celebrate the start of summer,” said John von Stade, co-chairman of Music at Moorland. “The outstanding music, picture-perfect setting and world-class fireworks truly make it a memorable evening for all ages.”

When/Where: Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Moorland Farms in Far Hills. Fireworks at nightfall.
Why Go: It's a magical evening for the whole family with the classical music of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and spectacular fireworks by Grucci. Proceeds benefit Somerset Medical Center. Rain or shine.
Pricing: $30 per person in advance. $60 per person at the gate. Children under 14 are admitted free. Tickets are available online

When/Where: From 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To enjoy a special ride under the light of the moon. Riders must be 12 years of age and older and have the ability to walk, trot, and canter with control on the trails.
Pricing: $32 for Somerset County residents, $40 for non-residents.

Fundraising Movie at Liberty Corner Church: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules"
When/Where: Starting at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at . Outdoors, unless moved indoors for rain.
Why Go: Two fourth graders at  Thomas Tancredi and Isabela Garcia, will sell refreshments for the free movie as a fundraiser for The Valerie Fund, for kids with cancer. For information, call 908-647-0340, or go online.
Pricing: Free admission, candy, popcorn and drinks will be sold.

When/Where: From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at  in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Teens and adults will receive instruction on wildlife drawing and painting with artist Andrea Gianchiglia.

Why Go: It's the start of the summer concert series. The 12th Annual Party in the Park/Family Volunteer Day featuring the R&B hit sounds of Dr. K's Motown Revue. Don't forget to help donate a school supply or book to help aid the "Stuff the Bus" project.

When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Friday at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To watch a great western that was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. The cinematography is amazing and Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin look great in cowboy hats.

Where/When: At 8:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 6 Court Road in Morris Plains.
Why Go: Learn all about this famous murder trial as you sit in the actual courtroom where Antoine LeBlanc was tried in 1833 for the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sayre and their servant, Phoebe.

Why Go: Because you want to enjoy a night of music this weekend.
