Basking Ridge T-Shirt Designers Search For the 'Ultimate Jersey Girl'

A Simple Daisy is holding a contest to find the woman who best represents her state.

With summer fast approaching, A Simple Daisy would like to celebrate the spirit and accomplishments of the women of New Jersey as they prepare their search for the ultimate "Jersey Girl."

"The reality shows with Snookie and the Housewives can be amusing, fun and entertaining but we all know there is so much more to jersey girls than what is depicted on television," the company's press release states. "A Simple Daisy is hoping to find the real women of New Jersey who are making a positive impact in their communities and represent all the wonderful qualities of the Garden State."

A Simple Daisy's founder Tracy Redling, a Basking Ridge resident, is creating a nationwide contest for women 21 years of age or older to coincide with the launch of her "Simply Jersey" t-shirt line. Contestants must purchase a "Jersey Girl" or "Simpy Jersey" t-shirt from A Simple Daisy (price range: $18-21) and submit an entry form with a photo of the contestant wearing the t-shirt and an explanation 500 words or less about why she is the ultimate Jersey girl. All of the profits from the sales will be donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

The contest officially opens on Memorial Day weekend 2010 and runs through Labor Day weekend 2010. The winner of the contest will receive accommodations at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City compliments of A Simple Daisy and will become the official Simply Jersey model for A Simple Daisy for 2011.

Jersey Girl and Simply Jersey t-shirts can also be found at The Rebecca Collection in downtown Bernardsville and in various retail locations around the state.

"Many of the TV shows today portray New Jersey women in one dimension," Redling said in a press release, "but there is much more to us than what Jersey Shore and the Housewives of NJ depict."

"I wanted to create the Jersey Girl and Simply Jersey t-shirts to express pride in our state and to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of New Jersey women. The contest is open to all women of New Jersey including women born in New Jersey but currently reside elsewhere, yet still exhibit the essence, attitude, and spirit  of their native state," Redling said. "Once a Jersey Girl, always a Jersey Girl."
