Mexican Restaurant and 'Theatrical Corner' For Kids Moving into The Hills

Two new businesses will fill final vacancies at the Highlands Village Center in The Hills off Allen Road.

Two new tenants, a Mexican restaurant and center for theatrical programs for children, are moving into the final vacants spots at the Highlands Village Center shopping mall off Allen Road in The Hills.

Mayan's Mexican Cocina and the Theatrical Corner for kids expect to open around or by Labor Day, said leasing agent Peter Wisniewski, executive vice president and principal for Coldwell Banker Commercial, Feist & Feist Realty Corp.

With the two newcomers, "We think now we will have a good mix of tenants," he said.

The restaurant fills a space left by the closing of Fresh restaurant late last year.

Wisniewski said that although he can't yet say what the menu is, Mayan's will be offering real Mexican food, rather than a fast-food version. Now, "We have to travel far to find good Mexican" food, he said.

The owner of Mayan's has another restaurant in Essex County. "He has a good track record," he said.

Wisniewski said the Theatrical Corner will fill the remainder of the space left vacant when McGrath's Paint & Hardware moved to the shopping center off Hills Drive in Bedminster a few years ago. He said the new tenant is scheduled to provide a variety of theatrical programs.

A spokesperson for Theatrical Corner, Diane DeSa, said the performing arts studio is set to open in late August. Information is at www.theatricalcorner.com.

The remainder of the space was filled when Top Mixed Martial Arts renovated the former hardware space and opened its own martial arts studio earlier this year.

"These are the last," Wisniewski said of the two latest tenants.
