New Tutoring Center Opens in Basking Ridge

Updated: Ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Saturday for new tutoring center at Dewy Meadow Village, already enrolling students.

at Dewy Meadow Village in Basking Ridge Saturday held its official ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. The new center's director and owner, Purvi Patel, said she wants to let the community know the center is open and enrolling students.

The public is invited to an open house with refreshments and tours provided between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new center, at 403 King George Road.

The new center's owner, Purvi Patel, said she wants to let the community know the center is open and enrolling students.

The philosophy of the tutoring center is to invite students into a welcoming environment where they can learn at their own pace, and learning is fun, said Patel.

She said the center pairs one tutor with two students at a time. That way, a student will receive instruction, and then work on applying a concept, while the tutor turns to the other student for some one-on-one time, Patel explained.

"We are there if you need us," Patel said, but the idea is not to let the study rely on the tutor to work out or solve each solution.

According to announcement posted on Patch, The Tutoring Center is a national franchise with a location in Basking Ridge. The center's experienced educators will staff a “Little Geniuses in Training” program for four- and five-year-olds, and other programs for beginner and advanced reading, kindergarten through grades 8 math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, homework help and study skill tutoring.

The center serves students K-12, Patel said. She said the center offers a PSAT preparation course, and is examining an SAT prep course to add later.

Parents may call The Tutoring Center at 908-350-7447 to schedule a free diagnostic appointment, the announcement said.

"We are very proud of this new after school learning center, but we are most excited about the potential it represents for the residents of this community," said Patel. "We have done something important that will improve children's lives for years to come."

Besides Basking Ridge, Patel said she has been receiving sign-ups from Warren Township, nearby Long Hill Township and even North Plainfield. Patel, a Bridgewater resident, said the high quality of schools in Bernards Township was among the reasons she chose to locate in Basking Ridge.

Patel said she knows she has competition from other learning centers within the township, but she said she chose to become part of The Tutoring Center because she wants to offer a relaxing, warm environment where students will be able to learn.

The Bernards Twp. Regional Chamber of Commerce's executive members will be at Saturday's ceremony, the announcement said. The chamber has worked with the establishment of the new center and "has been incredibly inviting and helpful in our adventure as new business owners," Patel said.

Al LiCata, executive director of the chamber, said Saturday that the local business organization wants to promote a new business opening in town.

LiCata said that other new businesses will open soon, but he declined to name those expected arrivals, or where they would be located.
