Tuscany Bistro Closes Doors After 17 Years

Business was in the Somerset Hills Shopping Center.

Tuscany Bistro, in the Somerset Hills Shopping Center on Route 202/206, has closed its doors permanently after 17 years in Pluckemin.

Tuscany Bistro is located in the Somerset Hills Shopping Center, near the A&P, which recently announced it will be closing its doors as well.

A&P will be closing on Feb. 23, and merchandise is currently being discounted between 10 and 50 percent, with all sales final.

The Somerset Hills Shopping Center is currently making plans for a possible renovation and expansion, and the possible addition of a Fresh Market. The plans are currently before the Land Use Board.

A call to representatives with the Somerset Hills Shopping Center was not immediately returned Tuesday.

So what do you think should replace Tuscany Bistro?

Does anyone know why Tuscany closed shop? They were usually busy. Was it due to a rent increase?

I heard it may be due to the vapor intrusion extraction system which wasn't working properly. PCEs, a dry cleaning solution from previous dry cleaners were released into environment and comes up through the ground as vapors. Like radon it is colorless and at most time odorless. Unfortunetly, there wasn't a vapor extration system set up in A&P. Depending upon the amount of PCE and the length of exposure, this vapor may be carcinogenic.

Tuscany never could get my order right. And once they tried to charge for the individual ingredients - a-la-carte - on a stromboli even though they were listed as included on their menu. I won that debate and never went back. Perhaps PCEs go better with mexican or chinese food?
