Verizon Says Emergency Message Was a Test

Central Jersey Verizon wireless customers get "civil emergency" message not identified as a test.

An alert warning some New Jersey Verizon customers of a "civil emergency" was only a test, Verizon said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"This test message was not clearly identified as a test. We apologize for any inconvenience or concern this message may have caused," the statement said.

Verizon Wireless was testing their internal communication system, the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management said in a Facebook post.
