Urban Table Opens With 'Something for Everyone'

If the new Urban Table restaurant just opened at Riverwalk Village Center in Basking Ridge looks familiar, you may have seen it on a trip to Morristown.

The decor is similar — although not identical — but the menu is the same, including not only an extensive burger area, but also a selection of sushi, Mexican specialities and salads.

This Urban Table is the second among Harvest Restaurants' list of restaurants in Somerset, Morris and Union counties, including which is next door to the new eatery off Martinsville Road.

Harvest Restaurants also owned Ciao Restaurant, an Italian restaurant that had occupied the space that now has been extensively renovated and transformed into Urban Table.

Some of the restaurant's Morristown fans already have been finding the new Urban Table in Basking Ridge, which just opened last Sunday, said Grant Halliday, director of operations for Harvest Restaurants.

The restaurant, with a full bar, offers "casual, fun food," Halliday said. He said the menu is "Harvest-quality food," made to order. "There's something for everyone," he said.

Urban Table had opened in Morristown 15 months ago, and Halliday said it was so well received that, "We decided this concept extense to a broader customer base than Ciao did."

The restaurant includes a broad variety of price ranges as well on its combined lunch and dinner menu, from choices of five Mexican burritos, tacos, and quesadillas at $10.95, to seared scallops at $22.95.

The restaurant offers brunch on Saturday and Sunday, which Halliday said is a combination of the breakfast and lunch menus.

Chatham artist designed subway mural

Halliday said the decor is designed to look like the type of restaurant you might see in the city, with tiles and ceilings that look like tin decorations. Murals in the interior are by John DeLade of Chatham, who also designed the murals at the Morristown Urban Table, Halliday said.

The murals were painted on canvas, which is then applied like wallpaper, he said.

So far, Halliday said the restaurant has been attracting a crowd from nearby corporate offices and diners generally from Bernardsville to nearby Warren.
