Verizon to Collect Old Electronic Equipment

Recycling event to be held for computers, small appliances and other electronics.

Would you like to safely discard any old computers, monitors, phone equipment, electronic toys and other electronics equipment cluttering up your garage, attic or closets? Basking Ridge's Verizon Co. will collect unwanted electronics equipment for recycling on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Area residents, businesses and Verizon employees are invited to bring equipment they would like discarded in an environmentally responsible manner to the visitor overflow parking lot at the Verizon Corporate Center, 1 Verizon Way, near exit 30 off Route 287.

Items to be accepted for recycling will include laptop and desktop computers; LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors; computer cables; mice; keyboards; gaming consoles; telephones and answering machines; stereo and audio equipment; paper shredders; alarm clocks; printers; cameras; conferencing equipment; remote controls; earphones; small electronic appliances; and electronic toys without batteries, according to Verizon. Hard drives will not be wiped.

The event is part of Verizon's commitment to protect and preserve the environment.  The supplier disposing of the discarded items will adhere to Verizon's zero-landfill objective, meaning the materials will be reused or recycled so that they do not end up in a landfill.

Verizon held a previous electronics recycling collection last April.
