Celebrate NJ’s 350th Anniversary at the American Conference on Diversity’s Diversity Stride Walk

Diversity Stride is coming to one of our nation’s top 5 growing little cities -- New Brunswick, NJ. This is a statewide event that brings together hundreds of individuals that believe in the power of diversity to unite us. Join us on Wednesday, March 26, at the kickoff luncheon at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick, 2 Albany Street, New Brunswick, NJ (Garden State Ballroom AB) at noon. For more information, contact Event Coordinator Pat Jones at pjones@jmcreativeenterprises.com or (973) 672-3212. Advanced registration is required.

Walkers from across New Jersey will be showing their Garden State pride during the American Conference on Diversity’s Annual Diversity Stride Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, June 14, at Buccleuch Park in New Brunswick, NJ. Enjoy live entertainment, refreshments, music, face-painting, and games beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the step off at 11:30 a.m. Diversity Stride is complimentary and open to all individuals and organizational teams.

Besides investing in your health during the walk-a-thon, this annual event helps to raise funds to support the American Conference on Diversity youth education and leadership development programs. This year’s goal is $100,000.

The American Conference on Diversity youth-education programs are essential to New Jersey’s future. They are designed to build knowledge and skills around diversity, anti-bullying, and social-justice issues for tomorrow’s leaders. Some of our youth initiatives include Manytown (regional human-relations youth forums), Awareness to Action (customized interactive youth workshops), College Connection (for higher-education students to create both personal and intellectual learning), and the signature Lead for Diversity (LFD), a year-long program that begins with an intensive summer residential retreat experience. LFD brings teams of students from high schools across New Jersey together to engage in experiential workshops, small group discussions, and action planning around social justice and diversity issues. During the summer, student teams work together to create an action plan specific to their school or district, which they implement during the ensuing school year. The action plan has the potential to reach the entire school population. Each year, the LFD schools’ action plans impact an estimated 20,000 New Jersey students. “Diversity Stride takes place in one of the most diverse states in the nation, now celebrating its 350th anniversary! The goal of the American Conference on Diversity is to ensure our neighbors of all races, ethnicities, faiths, abilities, sexual orientations, sexual identities/expressions, and ages know that they are valued and respected,” says President and CEO Elizabeth Williams-Riley.

The American Conference on Diversity encourages teams from the corporate community, places of worship, families, schools, universities, government agencies, and community organizations to participate. Whether you want to join as an individual or start a Walk team, register at http://diversitystridenj.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1105440. Complimentary team photos will be taken at the event. Walkers who raise $75 or more will receive a Diversity Stride T-shirt on Walk Day. Walkers raising $125 or more are eligible to receive a variety of prizes. Employees can also maximize their gift at no extra cost through their employer matching gifts program.
