Bernards Chamber Hosting Liberty Corner 'Holiday Walk'

Chamber hosting Holiday Walk in Liberty Corner village next Thursday.

The Bernards Township Chamber of Commerce (BTCC) will hosting an Annual Holiday Walk in Liberty Corner village at 7 p.m. next Thursday, after holding the annual Millington Holiday Parade in nearby Millington this Thursday night.

The Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church is co-host of the Liberty Corner holiday walk and is providing the use of the church's hall for the festivities after the walk through the local business district, said Al LiCata, the chamber's executive director.

Local scouts and other area groups are invited to join chamber members as they walk through the business district up to the church hall at 45 Church St. for refreshments, door prizes, caroling and to meet Santa, LiCata said.

“We look forward to this annual tradition and encourage families and friends to come out and enjoy the Spirit of the Holidays with your Chamber of Commerce,” said Barbara Long, chamber president.

LiCata said the Holiday Walk replaces the parade, which he said required too much red tape and expense to arrange. The scouts and other participants will walk up sidewalks to reach the church, he said.

In past years, the chamber had hosted the parade with the Liberty Corner Fire Company. This year's event is a slightly different direction, which he said did not require a permit.

"The kids really look forward to getting together each year and the Holiday Walk is a great way to keep part of the tradition going," LiCata said. "It's part of the Chamber's mission to give back to the communities we serve and to bring attention to various business districts in the greater area," LiCata said. He issued an invitation to the community to share a bit of "holiday spirit."

Parade in Millington Thursday night

The Bernards Township regional chamber was also hosting an annual “Millington Holiday Parade” at 7 p.m. this Thursday.

LiCata said that new this year was caroling scheduled beforehand at the All Saints' Episcopal Church, 15 Basking Ridge Road, in the Millington section of Long Hill Township.

He said the church's Rev. Victoria Geer McGrath and the choir would be on hand to accept any donation of canned goods for the needy to be accepted at the door.

The Parade was to start at All Saints Church and proceeds down to Millington Savings Bank, he said. From there, the parade it would work its way back to the Millington firehouse on Long Hill Road at the crescent for hot chocolate, cookies, drawings and Santa.

There is no cost to attend or participate in the parade. “We are so thrilled to make this an annual event, we do encourage everyone to participate in the parade, or line the route, come meet us at the firehouse and attend the pre-parade caroling at the Church,” Long said beforehand.
