Bernards School Board, Township Committee Meeting This Week

A newly formed group of parents with the stated goal of encouraging a program that would allow advanced students in kindergarten through grades 5 to receive additional instruction is expecting to approach the Bernards Board of Education at its Monday meeting, one parent said.

Parent Adam Hecht said the parents are asking that anyone interested join their discussion at 6 p.m. on Monday in room 111 at the William Annin Middle School. The board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the WAMS auditorium.

Hecht said that the parents have been talking about multiple options for approaching what would be in essence a return of a gifted and talented program.

Meanwhile, the Bernards Township Committee is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with the intention of holding a final discussion on an ordinance that would allow for summons to be issued to residents who in some way encroach on public property or easements on private property.

The type of encroachments that have occurred — intentionally or sometimes unwittingly — are drains or sheds placed over boundary lines, township officials said during previous discussions.

Also, the Township Committee has received correspondence from the Bamboo Grille asking permission to hold outdoors musical entertainment until 11 p.m. on Thursday nights.

Back in township schools, Ridge High School's Potential Careers Club has scheduled a talk with former Jets general manager and township resident Mike Tannenbaum at 3 p.m. on Monday in Lecture Hall A at the high school.

• The Bernards Township Green Team is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Bernards Township municipal building, 1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge.
• The Bernards Township Environmental Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Bernards Township municipal building.
• The Bernards Township Sewerage Authority is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 277 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.
• The Bernards Township Shade Tree Commission is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bernards Township municipal building.
• The Bernards Township Board of Adjustment is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Bernards Township municipal building.
• The Bernards Township Board of Health is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the health department at 262 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge.
