Concert added to "Amazing Race" Inspired Contest

The County Caper, held in August, will now have a live musical component.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center has added a live concert to "The County Caper," a local version of the popular TV series, "The Amazing Race."

The second "County Caper" will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 21, 8:00 a.m. from the team's home base and will end on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, with the awarding of the grand prize and participation prizes. Event is rain or shine.

On Aug. 22, from 2-3 p.m., Lydia Adams Davis and Kathy Byers will perform "One Earth So Green and Round," ecology songs and a wild animal puppet show that will entertain all ages. Adams Davis puppeteers with her wild animal friends will sing about recycling, animal habitats, global warming, conservation and environmental issues where children can make a difference.

Byers and Adams Davis are candid entertainers and award-winning recording artists. Between them they have five music CDs to their credit. They are currently pooling their talents to co-write an educational reptile album. Proceeds from their CD sales will benefit the Environmental Education Center.

"The County Caper" is not just a game, it's an adventure in Somerset County. County Caper is a two-day interactive adventure game that will take family members and friends of all ages to various destinations in Somerset County parks and facilities at which they will perform tasks, find clues, and gather information. The game is designed to encourage everyone to explore, learn and protect our parks and other natural areas. Teams will travel in their own cars to these destinations. Each team will be given a journal to collect stamps and/or record their findings.

Participation is free but pre-registration is required. Registration will be open until Aug. 20. Call 908-766-2489 to register or visit somersetcountyparks.org.

Registration may also be made in person at the Environmental Education Center.
