Drama, Concerts, Return to Bernards Parks

Along with meetings, it's time to enjoy plays and concerts in the park.

Sure, there may be a Bernards Township Committee coming up on Tuesday this week, but there's plenty of time for entertainment this week, courtesy of the Bernards Township Parks and Recreation Committee.

Trilogy Repertory Company, based in Basking Ridge, opens another great summer season of Bernards Township Parks and Recreation “Plays in the Park” series with with Monty Python’s musical comedy “Spamalot” this Thursday, July 11 at Pleasant Valley Park in Basking Ridge.

“Spamalot” will be staged at the park, next to the Veterans Hospital in the Lyons section of Bernards Township, on July 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, and 20. Although admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted. All performances begin at 8 p.m.

Concert series begins

The recreation department's Jayne Hannigan Concert Series also begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Pleasant Valley Park, with a performance by Tequila Rose.

In case of rain, the free concert will be moved indoors to the Ridge High School Performing Arts Center at 268 S. Finley Ave.

Kids and kids at heart also are invited to see the recreation department's first free movie night, "Hotel Transylvania," to begin shortly after 8 p.m. at Harry Dunham Park off Somerville Road. The audience is asked to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Noodle Night

And pool members should remember that this Thursday is noodle night for fun with pool noodles at the Bernards Township Pleasant Valley Pool at Pleasant Valley park. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Between all that fun, you might want to head over to the Bernards Township Committee meeting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday to find out what's going on in town.

Along with other business, the Township Committee plans to take a final vote on a $365,000 appropriation for capital projects, including a generator to keep town hall up and running in case of another disaster. (Bets, anyone?)

The committee also is due to hear a report on stormwater management rules from Township Engineer Tom Timko.

The township's Environmental Commission also is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday. All meetings will be held at the municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane.
