Editor's Notebook: Week in Review

From new ordinances to political debates and tree plantings, it was a busy week.

The week of Aug. 9 to 15 was an exciting one in Basking Ridge, and my first as the town's Guest Editor. While the town itself is not my home base, I learned that Patch is really enjoyed in Basking Ridge by residents and town officials alike.

The following are a few items I felt were pretty noteworthy from the past seven days, and I look forward to another week of working with Basking Ridge Patch.

I had the opportunity to speak at length with Bernards Township Mayor Scott Spitzer and Police Captain Edward Byrnes about the new noise ordinance that was approved at Tuesday night's Township Committee meeting. Both were incredibly helpful and didn't hesitate to share their thoughts and information.

We also learned earlier this week that various Somerset County and Basking Ridge organizations are looking to host an 11th District Congressional debate and have invited Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen and Democratic challenger Douglas Herbert to take part.

As the week progressed, the Shade Tree Commission decided it would plant new trees at the William Annin Middle School, but no one's really sure if that's going to darken the original problem anytime soon.

The annual Somerset County 4-H Fair took place, and it was full of performances and exhibits that spanned both air and land.

Don't forget to check out two major events Sunday: the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church picnic and the first annual Jewish Music and Art Festival at the Chabad Jewish Center.
