A crash on Martinsville Road on Wednesday night brought the Liberty Corner Fire Co. to try to extricate a Bridgewater man who died at the scene.

Construction Partially Closes Mount Airy Road

For several weeks, drivers are going to find their way around a closed section of Mount Airy Road between Basking Ridge and Bernardsville, from just north of the West Oak Street intersection to just south of the center of Bernardsville. Then, once the water mains are replaced and the road reopens, the county prepares for an even bigger road project along that stretch.

Bernards Township police and Liberty Corner Fire Chief Marc Friedman, who responded to a report of a house fire on Thursday afternoon, say a Christmas tree placed not far from a fireplace started a blaze at an attached home in The Hills section of the township.

Vehicular Homicide Charges in Fatal Head-On Crash

Lorri Weiss, 44, of Warren Township was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide in a motor vehicle crash that killed a Bridgewater man in Bernards Township on Wednesdy night, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano.

Bernards Committee Nixes Idea for Gas Station Generator Requirement

The Bernards Township Committee decided on Tuesday that the municipality won't follow up on a suggestion to require local gas stations to acquire such generators to allow gas to keep flowing freely in case of future power outages. "I think it would a good idea for for gas stations if they chose to do so but it's not something we would like to impose on them," said Township Mayor Carolyn Gaziano, in agreement with the rest of the committee. A spokesman for a trade group of gas station owners said that no gas would have been available for the stations to pump anyway.
