Man Killed in Mount Airy Road Accident in Bernards

Traffic came to a standstill, with Mount Airy Road blocked on Thursday afternoon after rescue workers, township police and investigators rushed to the scene where a large tree had fallen on the passenger compartment of a commercial truck driven by a longtime employee of H.W. Alward Inc. Tragically, the man had been killed.

Tree Swayed in Wind Before Breaking and Falling in Fatal Mount Airy Accident

Eyewitnesses say they watched the disturbing scene of the large tree that fell on a passing truck sway in high winds before it crashed and killed the truck's driver at about 3 p.m. Thursday on Mount Airy Road. On Friday, police released the name of the victim, Douglas McKay of Phillipsburg, who was a longtime employee of H.W. Alward Inc. of Bernardsville

Ridge Baseball Turf Field Plan Benched for Now

Adults who lead the Ridge Baseball Club showed up at Tuesday night's Bernards Township Committee meeting awaiting approval of a plan to install artificial turf on infields at the Ridge Baseball Complex on Valley Road. Instead, Township Committee members said that a subcommittee would first look at whether the proposal would intensify use of the facility, and complaints from neighbors about parking overflow and related complaints.
