Get a Taste of Passover in Basking Ridge

Chabad Jewish Center invites all who are interested to attend an interactive Passover Seder on Tuesday, March 30.

The community is invited to a traditional Passover Seder at Chabad Jewish Center in Basking Ridge on Tuesday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Seder is a lavish meal that celebrates the idea of freedom, according to Rabbi Yitzchok Moully.

"We're both celebrating historical freedom for the Jews leaving Egypt, but really it's about our own personal freedom, recognizing our personal limitations, our shortcomings, our own 'slaveries' that we put ourselves in, be it laziness, not going for that promotion, not striving for whatever it is we can strive for, and then breaking free of our limitations and moving forward," he said. "That's the message of Passover and that's the message that we'll carry for the Seder."

The Seder will have the traditional Passover meal, as well as a simultaneous children's program. All events will be in English and explained, with interactive opportunities for people to get involved and ask questions.

Passover is the celebration of the exodus of the Jews from slavery in Egypt. "They came down a few generations prior and ended up in slavery, and they remained an independent nation within the nation of Egypt," Moully said.

While it is a celebration of the birth of a nation and freedom from slavery for the Jewish people, it's also more than that, according to Moully.

"It's the celebration of freedom … in our personal lives, taking the step to liberate ourselves from whatever constraints that we put upon ourselves," he said.
