Giddy Up!: Lord Stirling Stables Offers Unique Riding Opportunities

On July 24 and July 25, Lord Stirling Stables will be hosting a Moonlight Ride for private horse owners and an introductory-English style ride for beginners.

Lord Stirling Stable will be hosting two special horseback riding opportunities on the weekend of July 24 and July 25. The Stable is located at 256 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge, New Jersey and is situated on 450 acres with 18 miles of trails (wooded and fields), one indoor ring, three outdoor rings, and an outdoor-jumping course.

The first event will be a guided Moonlight Ride for private horse owners on Saturday, July 24. This evening ride will take place from 8 to 10 p.m.,  and an experienced trail guide will accompany participants in groups of no more that eight riders.

In-person registration is open at the Stable office from Monday, July 12 through Thursday, July 22, 2010. The fee is $15 for 2010 trail card holders and $20 for horse owners who do not have a trail card. A current negative Coggins taken within the last 12 months must be presented for each horse at the time of registration.

The second event hosted by Lord Stirling Stables will be an introductory English-style horseback ride, which is scheduled for Sunday, July 25 at 10 a.m.

The introductory ride offers the opportunity to experience a trail ride on horseback before deciding whether to commit to riding lessons. It is also a great "refresher" for those who have not ridden English style in a long time, or for Western riders who would like to see if they enjoy English style riding.

The event begins with a mini-lesson given by one of the LSS certified instructors. The ride will take place rain or shine, and may be held in the indoor ring in the case of inclement weather.

Juniors and adults who weigh less than 240 pounds and are at least 12 years of age are eligible to participate. Riders between 12 and 18 years-old must be registered by their parent or legal guardian. An ASTM/SEI certified riding helmet and shoes or boots with hard, smooth soles and a definite heel are required and are available for rental at $3 each.

Payment by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover is required at the time of registration.
