Oak Street School Loads Up Frozen Turkeys, Food Donations For County Food Bank

Donations also were accepted in the Oak Street School office in Basking Ridge between Oct. 15 to 25.

The Oak Street School community's annual turkey and food drive before Thanksgiving brought in 44 frozen turkeys and 68 bags of non-perishable groceries.

Some of the Oak Street Parent-Teacher Organization's mothers collected frozen turkeys in the car drop off line on Monday morning, and were waiting for the arrival of a truck from the Food Bank Network of Somerset County.

The mothers, along with some students, were planning to help load the delivery truck. A van arrived from the food bank shortly before noon.

Blaine Riddle organized this year's drive. Other mothers and PTO members waiting to help load the donations were Margaret Milton, Pam Agresti and Kim Elber, pictured. Beth DiCesare, Kari Scaglione and Anne Castagno also helped run the food and turkey drive, which Riddle said took place between Nov. 15-25.

The frozen turkey and food drive has been an annual event — although one interrupted last November by Hurricane Sandy.
