West Nile Vigilance Urged by Local Health Department Official

It's a bad year for West Nile Virus, and the Bernards Township Health Department offered some precautions for how to avoid West Nile, especially after Somerset County issued an announcement the previous week that a Somerset County woman was this year's first confirmed case of West Nile Virus. Health Department Director Lucy Forgione also outlined some information about the disease.

Uzi Sale Gets Bernardsville Man 6 Years in Prison

Samuel Medway of Bernardsville was sentenced in Somerset County court on Friday to six years in state prison, three without eligibility for parole, following his conviction earlier in July on charges on charges related from accusations that he sold an Uzi and ammunition to an undercover agent in 2011. Meanwhile, Medway still awaits the disposition of a Bernardsville municipal charge after surrounded Medway's Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville.

Verizon, Unions Tentatively Settle Contract Talks, But NJ IBEW Still Seeking Resolution for Terminated Employee

Verizon Communications announced at the beginning of this week that a tentative settlement had been reached with 45,000 communications and wireline workers in the East, but the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 827, in New Jersey's leader cautioned that the pact has not yet been ratified. Moreover, that local expressed concerns over a member dismissed last year due to reported strike-related activities. At the beginning of last August, union members were poised to strike as their contract was due to expire. The workers returned to job, but it took more than a year, and to reach a proposed bridge across a big gap on major issues.
