Things to Do: Marching Band's Carwash, Many 9/11 Observances

And then there's Family Fun Day on Saturday at Fellowship Village.

The award winning Ridge High School Marching Band will demonstrate this Saturday that musicians can wash cars as well as they can perform a great version of a tune on their instruments, and on the field.

The band holds its annual Car Wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. this Saturday at . Members of the band and their parents will provide a sparkling hand-washing of your cars for a donation.

The car wash takes place rain or shine! Ridge High School is located on South Finley Avenue in Basking Ridge. Reservations are not necessary! Donations support the band’s many activities, including instructors, uniforms, costumes, and transportation to five competitions throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

This weekend also includes many 9/11 observances in the area, including the Liberty Corner Fire Company's dedication of a memorial to firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. Mayor John Malay is scheduled to give the address.

The firefighters have been working on the memorial in front of the firehouse on Church Street, which includes a piece of metal from the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan. Fundraising bricks for the walkway also are still for sale.

There's also Family Fun Day at Fellowship Village on Saturday! Pony and train rides, craft and bake sales, free fun food, live music by the David Aaron Sextet, arcade games, face painting, balloon characters, caricatures, and arecade games are all on tap!

Why Go:
To witness and honor the dedication of the fire company's 9/11 Memorial intended to memorialize the sacrifice of the 343 firefighters of the Fire Department of the City of New York who lost their lives on that day. A piece of steel from the Twin Towers is incorporated into the monument. Mayor John Malay will be the keynote speaker.

From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Leonard J. Buck Garden in Far Hills.
Why Go:
To save money on soil amendments and fertilizer while joining the green movement. Get ready to get dirty and learn to enrich your garden soil and protect the environment.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at in Warren Township.
Why Go:
To cycle for proceeds to benefit cutting-edge research and programs at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Be a "Virtual Rider" and help raise funds without participating in the picturesque 40 or 80 mile route. Either way, you help pedal towards a cure.

Why Go:
Come see the country's top show dogs compete for the coveted title of Best In Show. A variety of vendors and the opportunity to see different breeds up close and speak with knowledgeable owners and breeders make this event perfect for "man's best friend" and owners.

Why Go:
Because local residents are invited to bring their whole family to enjoy fun activities, massages, and fitness demonstrations while learning options of on how to live a healthy life. Somerset Patriots mascot, Sparkee, will be on hand to join in the fun of contests and prizes.

To witness and honor the planting of a memorial tree and the reading of the names of the 39 Somerset county residents killed at the World Trade Center.
