Verizon, Unions in Federal Mediation Talks

The Basking Ridge Patch learned that the township-based Verizon communications and 45,000 union members from the Northeast, including thousands in New Jersey, are in talks with a federal mediator. Last time this year, the was due to expire. The workers returned to job, but almost a year later, the contract remains unsettled.

Medway is due to answer that complaint in Bernardsville municipal court on Aug. 20, after the date was moved from Aug. 6. on charges related from accusations that he sold an Uzi and ammunition to an undercover agent in 2011.

All 'Champions' at Annual Meet at Pleasant Valley Pool

Dozens and dozens of swimmers in the 10 and under category from 11 swim teams throughout the region convened last Saturday for the annual Meet of Champions at Pleasant Valley Pool in Basking Ridge. Then, on Sunday, they headed out to Hackettstown at the other end of the region that sends swimmers to compete. Lots of ribbons were handed out, and everyone got a chance to swim.

U.S. Women's Soccer, With Assist from Tobin Heath, Win Olympics Quarterfinal on Friday

The U.S. Women's Soccer Team on Friday knocked off the New Zealand team 2-0 with an assist from former . The team now moves on to the semifinal on Monday against the winner of a Great Britain vs. Canada match. The U.S. team is undefeated, 4-0, following the Friday morning game against the New Zealand game, played in Newcastle, England.
