Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Somerset County, Hazardous Driving Conditions Expected

Freezing rain, snow and sleet could make for dangerous road conditions tonight.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a "Winter Weather Advisory" for Somerset County.

Snow, sleet or freezing rain is expected in the area until after midnight. The National Weather Service warning said, "Driving is expected to become hazardous in spots due to light icing and light sleet accumulation. Many people will be out tonight, so please be careful when ventuing outside, in the event that you encounter icing."

The advisory was first issued at 8:48 p.m. today and will stay in effect until 1 a.m.

Travel is expected to be impeded by limited visibility, as well as slippery roads. Residents are warned to excercise caution on their routes back home after their New Year's celebrations.

UPDATE: 1:09 a.m. – The Winter Weather Advisory has been canceled. Untreated roads may still be slippery through the morning and travelers are cautioned to remain careful when driving.
