Bianchi Win Maintains All-Republican Bernards Township Committee

Incumbent easily wins another term.

Republican Bernards Township Committeewoman Carol Bianchi's 3-to-1 vote over her nearest competitor, Democrat David Ferdinand, in Tuesday's election, continues the governing body's longstanding status as an all-Republican board.

Bianchi received 5,120 in Tuesday's unofficial vote count, with 7,839 voters, or 39.79 percent of the township's registered voters, casting a ballot.

Ferdinand received 1,633 votes, while Bill Connors, an independent candidate, received 505 votes.

Bianchi, former chairwoman of the Bernards Township Planning Board, was appointed to the Township Committee in August following the departure of Township Committeeman Scott Spitzer, who resigned to move out of state.

During the campaign, she stressed the current Republican Township Committee's financial record, including keeping the municipal tax rate steady over several years, along with operating the township without debt.

Ferdinand, who has run before as a Democrat, campaigned with the stated intention of giving another voice on the governing body. Connors also said he would like residents' voices to be given more input in the Township Committee's decision-making process."
