AT&T on network restoral, relief efforts, stores open for charging

AT&T efforts of restoring network after Sandy, relief efforts and stores open for charging for the public.

AT&T is working around the clock in New York and New Jersey with thousands of employees, some personnel from surrounding states working to repair equipment as soon as possible.

More than a 100 AT&T company-owned stores in metro NY/NJ are open for business to assist the general public, not just AT&T customers, with charging needs. Check out AT&T’s blog to see which stores are open near you.

AT&T’s response teams are fully engaged and making progress in restoring wireless services.  The company is closely aligned with state and local officials and emergency response teams, monitoring service disruptions and coordinating our restoration efforts.  The vast majority of our cell sites in the Northeast are online and working.  We are making progress in areas that were especially hard-hit, including New York City and New Jersey, where flooding, power loss, transportation and debris all pose challenges.   AT&T also has thousands of employees, including personnel from surrounding states, working to make repairs to damaged equipment in areas where it is safe to do so.

Additional Customer Support:

AT&T and T-Mobile also have entered into an agreement to enable roaming on their networks to customers of both companies in the heavily impacted areas and where capacity is available and subscribers have a compatible device. AT&T and T-Mobile customers will be able to place calls just as they normally would, but their calls will be carried by whichever network is most operational in their area. This will be seamless for AT&T and T-Mobile customers with no change to their current rate plans or service agreements.

The AT&T Foundation also announced yesterday, a $250,000 grant to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund to support restoration and care efforts benefiting people impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Also, AT&T wireless customers can make a $10 donation for Hurricane Sandy relief by texting to the following non- profit organizations:

  • REDCROSS to 90999 to support the American Red Cross
  • STORM to 80888 to help the Salvation Army
  • HUMANE to 80888 to give to the American Humane Society

Customers who would like to contribute more can text up to five times for a total donation of $50. One hundred percent of any donation will be paid to the customer's designated charity and the customer will be charged for the donation via the customer's monthly AT&T bill.
