An American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class is being offered through The Adult School that begins Saturday 3/22 and will run for 6 Saturdays through 4/26 at Berkeley Aquatics in Berkeley Heights. This class provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool setting and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Instructor, Rhonda Zampetti. Students must attend all sessions to gain certification, class cost $350. Advance registration required. Prerequisites: • Minimum age: 15 years by the last scheduled day of the class• Swim 300 yards front crawl and/or breaststroke continuously. • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
o Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.

o Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. o Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point.
o Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

American Red Cross Certificate Issued for Lifeguarding/First Aid/AED and is valid for a two year period.
