Hockey Tournament Still Open on Saturday Morning

Ridge High School hockey alumni organizes fundraising tournament at Harry Dunham Park in Basking Ridge.

Luke Levanchy, a 2001-2005 alumni of Ridge Hockey, has organized a fundraising tournament on Saturday morning at Harry Dunham Park off Somerville Road in Basking to raise money for the Give & Surf Organization (www.giveandsurf.org).

Registration starts at 10 a.m., with live hockey action kicking off at 11 a.m. at the recently reopened roller hockey rink in the park.

Levanchy has scheduled a BBQ food truck to arrive at noon; raffles will be hosted as well. There were about six teams registered by Friday, so the games were expected to last for a few hours.

The ultimate goal of the tournament is to raise funds for a new school in the region of Bocas Del Toro, Panama. All entry fees of $35 per person will be going directly to the school. The organization's Facebook page has more information: https://www.facebook.com/giveandsurf/info.

All ages accepted

The $35 entry fee will cover those of all ages who would like to play in the tournament.

The organizers are hoping for about five to 10 teams to face off starting after 10 a.m. and continuing to perhaps 6 p.m. at Harry Dunham Park.

Checks should be made payable to Give & Surf Organization in the amount of $35, or however much players would like to contribute to the cost.

According to the organizers, winning teams of the event will be eligible to win prizes and everyone can win raffle donation prizes of:

1. NJ DEVILS ICE LOUNGE TIX (Donated by Couch Braunsdorf Insurance)
2. 18 holes of golf with carts at New Jersey National (given by New Jersey National) and many more are still to come!

Food will be available for purchase, including burgers and dogs.

Games will include two 7-minute halfs with each winning team advancing on in the tourney. As with the annual Summer S.T.I.C.S. event, helmets and skates are required.
