Fun-filled night walks and other Halloween activities for children and their parents in celebration of Halloween are coming up at the end of this week at the Somerset County Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge.
“By the Light of the Moon,” for adults and children of all ages, is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. this Friday. Led by one of the center's naturalists, adventurers will explore the Great Swamp while listening for animal sounds and using their night vision to walk the swampy trails beneath the stars.
Walks will depart every 15 minutes, while at the same time indoor activities will include a maze, live critters, refreshments and more.
“The Nature of Halloween,” for infants to children ages 6 with an adult, is scheduled from 2:15 to 4 p.m. on this Saturday.
Explorers will join an EEC naturalist for a stroll on the boardwalk around the Environmental Education Center and meet life size misunderstood animals such as a dazzling dragonfly, spectacular snake, and bashful bear.
Indoor activities include a maze, live critters, and more. Cookies and cider will top off the night. Walks will depart every 15 minutes.
Cost for each program is $6 per person. Participants must register in advance online at www.somersetcountyparks.org under Naturalist Programs, by in-person registration at the Environmental Education Center seven days a week between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or over the phone at 908-766-2489, or at NJ Relay 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment.
