What is the Future For Historic Downtown Building?

What would you like to see go in this classic century-old Basking Ridge building, where New Jersey Countryside remains upstairs?

Historic buildings may not have all of the technological bells and whistles of new structures, but they have something else — atmosphere, often charm and of course — a completely unique history.

What would you like to see in a structure of about 1,450 square feet that is being marketed at 134 S. Finley Avenue in downtown Basking Ridge. Listing agent is Michael Lattmann of Kienlen Lattmann Sotheby's International Realty, also located in Basking Ridge.

The building for sale is at least 100 years old, and had once housed a bakery at some point during its "long, long history," Lattmann said on Tuesday.

New Jersey Countryside Magazine remains a tenant upstairs in the building. The entire building is for sale and the listing with additional details is online.

Lattmann said the downstairs office, facing South Finley Avenue and across Lewis Street from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, is available for leasing. He said it encompasses about 800 square feet of commercial space, and could be modified inside.

"It's a commercial property with great street frontage on South Finley," Lattmann said.

In relatively recent years, law offices and a financial planner have been some of the occupants of the building, he said.

So what would you like to see at 134 S. Finley Ave. in this first-floor office? Do you hope the new owner would keep the current historic look?

What sort of business/office/shop do you think is needed or would add to the character and convenience of Basking Ridge center?
