Obituary: Dorothy C. Voorhees, 93, of Basking Ridge

A graduate of the Pratt Institute in 1942 who had a fulfilling career teaching art to New Jersey students.

Dorothy C. Voorhees, 93, of Basking Ridge passed away on Tuesday, February 18. 

She was born in Maplewood, where she lived most of her life until she moved 
Basking Ridge in 1992.

She graduated from Pratt Institute in 1942 and went on 
career of 35 years, teaching art to students of all ages. She started her career in 
Newark Public School System, then went on to College of St. Elizabeth and the 
Madison Public School System. 

She loved her family and her many friends. She was a member of the Basking 
Presbyterian Church, Sholom Bakota Circle, the Quilting group of the Methodist 
and the Friends Quilting Group. She was very active, loved going on vacations 
family and out to dinner and lunch with her friends. 

She was the beloved wife of Alvah Voorhees, who passed away in 1968, she was 
beloved mother of Robin Voorhees and wife Judy, and Jann Slapin and husband 
Harold, the beloved grandmother of Jonathan Slapin, Emily Slapin Lufkin, 
Voorhees and Kristy Voorhees Fischetti and the beloved great grandmother of 
Benjamin Slapin. 

Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014, 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church.
