A Restaurant for All Seasons and All Tastes

At Warren's Country Squire Restaurant, everyone gets what they want.

Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Overview: Diner-style restaurants are ubiquitous in New Jersey—we're actually kind of famous for them—and it's no secret why. In our diverse neck of the woods, only a diner offers the kind of menu diversity a group is likely to want—there's something there for every palate and craving.

Unfortunately, you might not want to take mom to some. Even if the food is acceptable, the cleanliness may not be—and the service? Fuhgettaboutit.

The Country Squire is markedly different in all respects from your typical diner—you'll find all the entrees diners are famous for, but in a nicely decorated sit-down restaurant environment.

And everything is done well, from the fresh-baked pastries in the large display case next to a breakfast/coffee bar, to the entrees and daily specials.

Decor: As mentioned, Country Squire isn't one of the crowded, box-car kind of diners. It's a large and spacious restaurant. The main room has booths for two people in the center, with larger booths on one side and a counter on the other. At the front, an open floor plan accommodates separate tables.

The main decorating theme is Colonial, fitting the restaurant's name, with nicely trimmed wooden booths and dividers,

Drinks: Coffees of all types, gourmet and regular, teas, sodas and juices are available.

Entrees: The eight-page menu covers everything from breakfast to lunch specials to dinners. I've enjoyed a number of meals there and found everything to be good—it's hard to mess up an omelet breakfast, but I've seen it done (not here).

There's a freshness most of the food has which is often lacking in other such restaurants—which explains why the place is busy throughout the day.

This week, I enjoyed a lunch special featuring a half of a Reuben sandwich on sourdough bread, with a bowl of chicken soup. The bread wasn't as substantial as I'd hoped, and a little more sauerkraut would have been an improvement, but the sandwich had the overall balance of ingredients needed for a good Reuben.

Desserts: If only we could really try everything they offer...dream on! I can say from experience the cinnamon rolls and cheesecake are terrific—but please let me know what you've had for dessert because there's just too much to choose from: ice cream, cakes, pastries and pies...oh, my!

Service: With such a solid and well-established business, it's great to see the same servers on repeated trips. The help is exceptionally professional and courteous, and seem to enjoy working in such a busy restaurant.
