UPDATED: Police Car Involved in Crash on Mt. Airy Rd.

Collision occurs when officer attempts to make motor vehicle stop.

Township police still are investigating a Tuesday afternoon vehicle collision on Mount Airy Road, that resulted in both cars being towed from the scene.

On Wednesday, township police said that Patrol Officer Michael Yeo had been monitoring traffic from a stationary position on the northbound shoulder of Mount Airy Road near Laurel Court when he reportedly observed a motor vehicle violation.

Police said Yeo attempted to pull into traffic to stop the driver allegedly committing the violation. As he pulled his patrol vehicle off the shoulder and onto Mount Airy road, according to police, his vehicle struck a 2005 Ford Taurus that was passing his location heading northbound on Mount Airy Road.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was a 69-year-old Basking Ridge resident, transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Police said the officer was not injured.

A township officer on Tuesday said he believed there were no serious injuries as a result of the crash.

Both vehicles had been towed from the accident scene, police said. Sgt. Scott Ward is investigating the accident, according to Wednesday's accident report.
