Another Burglary Reported in Bernards

Township police investigating Martinsville Road report of fourth local burglary since March.

said detectives are investigating a reported break-in at an unoccupied home up for sale on Martinsville Road. The burglary was called in to police late on Monday morning, the fourth reported by township police since early March.

According to the police report, the burglary appears to have taken place between last Thursday, April 12, and at 11 a.m. on Monday, when the break-in was reported by the home's caretaker.

Police said a television and possibly jewelry appears to have been taken, but the homeowner has not yet submitted a list of items reported to be stolen. Entry into the home was forced, the police report said. The home is furnished but not occupied, according to police.

Police Lt. Michael Voorhees said the incident is being investigated along with other recent burglaries in Bernards Township that may be related to a string of other burglaries reported in Somerset, Morris and Hunterdon counties.

Most recently in Bernards, and burglarized, according to the police report.

Multiple burglaries

Anotherhad been reported in early March in a township residence that also had been vacant. In yet another,to the reported break-in on Birch Drive, jewelry also was reported as stolen from a home where the owner was absent for several days.

"The fact that some of the residents have been away at the time of the burglary, as well as the proximity of the residences to interstate highways are two of the fact patterns we are exploring," Police Lt. Ted Reese said in late March.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
