Another Burglary with Jewelry Theft Reported in Basking Ridge

Resident says cash and jewelry said to be taken from Watchung Drive home in The Hills.

Bernards Township police say a Watchung Drive resident in The Hills who was gone from his home all day last Saturday returned to find a back door open and cash and jewelry reportedly missing from the master bedroom.

The resident reportedly told police he left the home at about 7:30 a.m. that day, and returned at 10 p.m. that night.

Upon returning, the resident noticed that a patio door in the kitchen was open, police said. The resident looked more closely and reportedly found that the lock was broken and door appeared to have been shouldered open.

The resident then noticed that drawers in the closet in the master bedroom had been pulled open, the police report said.

The resident reported to police that jewelry and some cash had been taken, said Bernards Police Lt. Ted Reese. However, Reese said that the police report indicated that the homeowner had not yet given a value for the items he said had been stolen.

Reese on Thursday said that as far as he knew, there is no reason to believe at this time that the burglary and reported theft was related to other reported incidents.

String of burglaries, many with thefts, reported in December

Police had reported about a half dozen apparent break-ins during December, with most of those burglaries taking place in The Hills section of the township. Jewelry was taken in some of those break-ins, but in some the apparent culprit fled before taking anything, police said at that time.
