Occupants of Rollover Crash Rescued by Basking Ridge Fire Co.

No major injuries after Route 287 accident.

The Basking Ridge Fire Co. and First Aid Squad removed three occupants trapped inside a vehicle that had rolled over on Route 287 northbound in Bernards Township on Wednesday night, but state police at Somerville said no major injuries were suffered by those inside.

State police at Somerville said the accident, for which the fire company had answered the call at about 8 p.m., was completely cleared shortly after 11 p.m.

The accident is being investigated by state police, officials said.

Volunteer firefighters ended up cutting the doors off the vehicle with the people inside, according to the fire company. One of the passengers was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad, and the driver was transported to the same hospital by the emergency medical squad from Basking Ridge, said Basking Ridge Public Information Officer Jack McGrath.

According to the fire company, the volunteer firefighters and medical volunteers were sent out to mile marker 29.6 on Route 287 at 10:04 p.m.

Fire Chief Duncan Watt was first to arrive on scene, and took command of the rescue operation for those trapped in the vehicle, which had rolled over before landing in an upright position, according to the fire company.

A Basking Ridge fire engine and emergency medical vehicle arrived next, the fire company said.  Assistant Chief Nick Ierubino was assigned to lead the extrication effort and emergency medical technician Sarah Bonnefoi was assigned to direct EMS operations. A Liberty Corner ambulance was also called in by Watt.

Watt released rescuers from the accident site shortly before 9 p.m., McGrath said.
