Basking Ridge Man, 22, Faces Heroin Charges

Police say they allegedly discovered illegal narcotic in car that had run out of gas.

Bernards Township police say that Erik Odqvist, 22, of Basking Ridge faces charges in connection with heroin allegedly discovered in his car when his vehicle ran out of gas on Martinsville Road early on Sunday, Nov. 27.

At approximately 12:50 a.m. that day, Township Police Sgt. Mark Leopold reportedly attempted to assist a stranded motorist on Martinsville Road, police said. The driver, Odqvist, told Leopold that his vehicle, a 2003 Audi, had run out of gas, the police report said.

While speaking with the motorist, Leopold observed that the individual allegedly was displaying symptoms consistent with someone who was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, according to police. The officer also observed there were items in the vehicle that are commonly used to ingest controlled dangerous substances, police said. Leopold then reportedly recovered two wax folds of heroin near the driver’s seat, according to police.

Police said Odqvist was placed under arrest andtransported to township police headquarters, where he was processed and released on his own recognizance.

The Basking Ridge man now faces charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and failure to inspect, said the police report, which added he has not been convicted as guilty of those charges.
