The passenger, Michael Dyda, 32, of High Bridge, was charged with possession of heroin, township police reported.

The police report said that at about 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 16, Patrol Officer Slawomir Zolnierowski observed 2000 Mercury traveling on Route 78 westbound with an alleged broken tail light, and conducted a motor vehicle stop before speaking to the driver, who was Sellers.

Ofc. Zolnierowski conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rt. 78 and spoke to the driver, who was Sellers, police said. According to the officer, Sellers was not able to produce a registration card for the vehicle or a current drivers license.

Zolnierowski reportedly spoke to Sellers about his travel plans for the afternoon and attempted to verify those travel plans with the passenger in the vehicle, who was Dyda.

Sellers and Dyda gave conflicting stories as to their travel plans, according to police. Police said Zolnierowski asked for consent to search both Sellers and Dyda, and both allegedly agreed to the search.

According to the police report, Zolnierowski allegedly located a wax fold of heroin near the front seat and center console area, and another wax fold of heroin in a bag on the rear seat of the car.

The report said Sellers was arrested and charged with possession of the heroin allegedly found near the front seat, and Dyda was arrested and charged with possession of the heroin found in the bag which allegedly was on the rear seat.

Both men were transported to headquarters, processed and released on their own recognizance, police said.

Police added the defendants have been charged, but not proven guilty.
