Bernardsville Resident Struck Walking Across Anderson Hill Road

Accident occurred near intersection of Olcott Avenue on Thursday morning.

Borough police said a local adolescent was struck by a vehicle on 7:39 a.m. Thursday while walking in a crosswalk on Anderson Hill Road, heading in the direction of Olcott Avenue.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was taken taken to a hospital to be checked out, police said.

The driver of the vehicle apparently was coming out of Olcott Avenue, and attempting to make a left turn onto Anderson Hill Road heading south, according to the police report.

The driver, Melanie Depoortere of Mine Brook Road in Bernardsville, was issued a summons charging her for failing to yield to a pedestrian, police said.

Olcott Avenue leads to Bernards High School. However, in response to a question, borough police said a crossing guard was not stationed at that crosswalk at the time, or at any time.
