Fire Company Responds to Overturned Car on 287

The Basking Ridge Fire Company and NJ State Police were present at the accident scene.

The Basking Ridge Fire Company and EMS squad extricated a passenger from a badly damaged vehicle, Wednesday, on 287 in Bernards Township.

The fire company responded at 3:56 p.m. to an accident involving a van and a tractor-trailer. The van was badly damaged and had rolled over onto its side in the accident.

"The Basking Ridge Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to Route 287 Southbound near mile marker 30 for a reported van rollover with entrapment," Basking Ridge Fire Company Public Information Officer John Sabel said in an email.

"Upon arrival, units found a van on its side that had reportedly rolled multiple times following a collision with a tractor-trailer," Sabel said. "Firefighters removed the roof of the van and EMS had the patient packaged and ready for transport twelve minutes after arrival.

All three lanes of traffic were backed up for over a mile going south on 287. The NJ State Police and the NJ Department of Transportation were also on the scene redirecting traffic.

"Other units on-scene included the Bernards Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police and Medic 12 from Atlantic Health/Morristown Hospital," Sabel said.
