Car-School Bus Accident Still Being Investigated

Police said driver, 17, was believed to be heading to Ridge High School.

said the driver whose car struck the rear of a school bus heading to shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning is believed to have been heading to the high school as well, but the accident report was not yet complete as of Wednesday afternoon.

. The mishap occurred at the ramp leading from Stonehouse Road onto the northbound lane of South Finley Avenue, heading in the direction of the high school.

Police Lt. Ed Reese said on Wednesday afternoon that he believes the driver, who struck the back of the bus, was heading to Ridge High School.

However, he added the accident report had not yet been completed at that time, and he could not say if a summons had been issued.

Township police had closed off the ramp as of about 7:20 a.m. Schools Business Administrator Nick Markarian, who was at the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m. — when the bus and its students already had departed — said of the students in the bus, "Everybody was fine."

Township police later said the car was a Ford sedan driven by 17-year-old female who ran into the back of a school bus at the intersection of Stonehouse and South Finley.

The car was towed from the accident location with damage to the front of the vehicle.

The bus had waited to be cleared by the school's transportation department and by township police before it could depart from the accident location, and continue its trip to bring the students to Ridge High School, Markarian said. Wednesday was the first day the buses were being routed to the rear of the a measure taken to try to alleviate traffic jam ups at the entrance to the high school at the intersection of Lake Road and South Finley Avenue.
