Ground broken for 90-unit Valley Brook Village in Lyons.

Ground has been broken on a rental complex for veterans, the Bernards Township administrator said at Tuesday night's meeting.

Administrator Bruce McArthur said construction is underway at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Campus at Lyons for Valley Brook Village, a 90-unit rental complex for veterans.

The project is being developed by Community Hope, Inc. a Parsippany-based non-profit that supplies housing and services for veterans, disabled and mentally ill residents.

Valley Brook Village is part of an effort to end homelessness for veterans within five years.

The complex, according to Community Hope, is a pedestrian-friendly village atmosphere that will promote a sense of community in a non-institutional setting. It is funded by federal and state subsidies including rental subsidies and funding for supportive services.
