Investigation Continues into Basking Ridge Man's Alleged Thefts of Unlocked Cars

Bernardsville police say they continue investigation after charging Bernards man, 18, with alleged thefts from cars in Bernardsville.

Bernardsville police said they are continuing an investigation in the alleged theft by a Basking Ridge man of a Global Positioning System and a Sirius satellite radio receiver from two unlocked vehicles in store parking lots in Bernardsville.

Patrick Drake, 18, of Walnut Circle in Basking Ridge, had been arrested by borough police at his home last Friday, March 4, according to a report by Bernardsville police.

Drake had been then charged with burglary third degree, disorderly persons theft and receiving stolen property, said Bernardsville Lt. Demmings Hoadley.

The investigation continues into the alleged incidents, Hoadley said on Friday.

Following the arrest,  Drake was arraigned before a judge in Somerville, according to Bernardsville police. He was released after posting 10 percent of $10,000 bail, according to the police report.

The alleged thefts had taken place a few days earlier, the report said. Both store parking lots are located off Route 202 in Bernardsville. Borough police were contacted by the car owners in both cases, Hoadley said.
