JCP&L Spokesman: More than 8K Working in NJ After Sandy

Outage are going to 'fluctuate' as power is restored, spokesman Ron Morano said.

More than 8,000 workers are in JCP&L's territory in New Jersey working on the restoration of power after Jersey Central Power & Light spokesman Ron Morano said on Monday afternoon.

"Every day, we bring more crews in here," Morano said. He said that 3,800 line workers and 1,500 foresters were at work in the state on Monday.

But in response to questions why progress is slow in some areas — including Bernards Township, and outages stubbornly remain for about half of the town's population — Morano stressed that estimates for restoration are estimates, not guarantees.

"We are also continuing to work on a lot of big problems, so we can work on the neighborhoods," he added.

As far as situations, where power outage numbers inch back upward, as happened in Bernards earlier on Monday, Morano said some customers whose power was restored may be taken offline again temporarily while further repairs are being done in that area.

"You're going to have that number fluctuate," he said of restoration numbers.

"I wish I could tell you when we will be in each and every municipality," Morano added. He did not speculate on what would happen if any storm hits on Wednesday.
