Kentucky Woman Arrested on Drug, Traffic Charges

The following information was obtained directly from the Bernards Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Bernards Township police said a 25-year-old Kentucky woman whose vehicle was stopped on Martinsville Road because it lacked license plates also has been charged with marijuana possession and related charges.

The woman, Brenda Hale of Corbin, Ky., is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper display or fictitious license plates and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, according to township police.

Police said Bernards Patrol Officer Christopher Baxter pulled over the 2003 Chevy being driven by Hale at 6:25 p.m. last Saturday on Martinsville Road near Interstate 78. Baxter had stopped the vehicle because allegedly no license plates were displayed on the vehicle, police said.

After finding that the vehicle was registered to Hale in Kentucky, Baxter reportedly asked Hale for consent to search her vehicle due to what police described as the woman's nervous demeanor and inconsistent statements regarding her travel plans.

According to police, Hale consented to the search, and Baxter allegedly found a bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe under the front passenger seat. The woman was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, police said. There, she was processed and released on her own recognizance, according to the report from township police.
