Police Allege Man Found Loitering Had Heroin

Milford resident faces multiple drug charges after incident at Exxon station off Kings Road.

A 23-year-old Milford resident accused of loitering at the Exxonstation off King George Road last Friday afternoon now faces multiple drug charges, including possession of heroin, Bernards Police said.

Police said that at 2:40 p.m. on that day, Sgt. Mark Leopold responded to the Exxon station near the Interstate 78 intersection to investigate an individual who was reportedly loitering at the gas station.

Leopold observed the individual, later identified as Nicholas Gussis, of Milford, drive out of the gas station in a 2001 Saturn with tinted windows and no front license plate, according to the police report. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Martinsville Road, police said.

While speaking to Gussis, Leopold observed items in the vehicle that he believed to be consistent with intravenous drug use, police said. Leopold requested and was granted permission to search the vehicle, according to police. The officer allegedly found numerous syringes and a wax fold containing heroin in the vehicle, police said.

Gussis was placed under arrest on charges of possession of heroin, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, possession of a syringe, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, improper display of plates and having tinted windows, according to police.

He was transported to headquarters, processed and released on his own recognizance, police said.
